There really is no denying that the Philippines is full of talented actors and performers. But among all the talents, we Filipinos are known for being great singers. The pool of talent that we have in the music industry are just innumerable as reflected in the numerous singing competitions and internet singing sensations that we have.
Of course, this brand of talent goes way back with the pillars of the music industry in the Philippines and one of them is none other than the very quick-witted and comedic singer, Rico J Puno.
Since the start of his career back in the 70s, Rico J Puno has given us records and songs that are definitely remarkable. Being the man behind the popular songs Macho Guwapito, May Bukas Pa, and Magkasuyo Buong Gabi, he has an undeniable contribution to the country’s music scene.
We have also recently seen Mr. Rico J as a judge in one of the famous singing contests during noontime, Tawag Ng Tanghalan sa Showtime. With his witty antics and funny comments towards contestant, the singer has indeed been a part of our noontime routine as well.
Without a doubt, Rico J Puno has been an entertaining addition to the show business industry, which is why it was a sad, sad news to hear about his passing just today, October 30, 2018. The singer has left the earth at the age of 65 and we hear initial confirmation of it through an Instagram post of his sister, Anna Puno.
“Numbed with grief, I would like to call on all entertainers in the OPM Industry as well as his worldwide fans to stop for a moment and say a prayer to one of the most respected singers in the country,” she wrote on her post.
According to Anna, she last visited Rico at St. Lukes Medical Center in Taguig. She did not expect that it was the last time she will see her brother.
“When he was in the hospital, they didn’t let him go. He went straight to the ICU. He was revived at first, then he was okay. When everybody left, he had a heart failure. They were trying to revive him for the second time, but he didn’t make it,” she furthered.
A lot of famous personalities and celebrities, especially those in the music industry who have worked closely with Rico J have extended their condolences to the family and have taken to social media their sentiments about the singer’s passing.
Singers like Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, and Lea Salonga have expressed their condolences and have thanked Rico for his contribution to the music scene and have extended their gratitude towards him, especially for being an awesome and wonderful friend.
