Fans of the international singer Ariana Grande are deeply horrified at what the singer experienced during the interment of the soul queen Aretha Franklin.
Last September 1, Saturday, the Italian-American singer Ariana Grande was invited to attend and perform on the interment of the music icon Aretha Franklin. In honor of the said musical icon, she sang a beautiful and wonderful performance of “(You Make Me Feel) Like a Natural Woman.”
Of course, the singer did her rendition very well. After all, Ariana Grande is known for her beautiful and angelic yet powerful vocals. In addition to that, a lot of people are also mesmerized of her gorgeous features and her humble character.
However, even if the singer sang exceptionally, the bishop who welcomed her after her performance showed no respect for her at all. Aside from making a joke about Ariana Grande’s name, he even groped the singer in front of thousands of people.
Bishop Charles H. Ellis was the preacher who greeted Ariana after her performance. A video circulating in social media sites showed how the groping incident happened. It can be clearly seen in the video that the bishop’s hand was pressing right at the side of the breast of Ariana.
The singer tried to get away from the hold of the bishop but he sure was holding her tight as she could not easily take his hands off of her. Ariana Grande seemed really in great discomfort all the while Bishop Ellis was talking to her.
The fans and supporters of Ariana Grande immediately expressed their outrage and disappointment at the situation. Hours after the incident, the hashtag #RespectAriana became trending worldwide with now hundreds and thousands of tweets about the matter.
The bishop immediately gave his apologies for the singer. He said, “It would never be my intention to touch any woman’s breast… I don’t know I guess I put my arm around her.”
He even added that he always shook the hands and hugged everyone but then what he did to Ariana is clearly not a hug.
Others also criticized the way Ariana dressed up for the event. She wore a black dress and a pair of black stilettos with a touch of silver. Some netizens commented that her dress was way too short to be appropriate for the event.
An author named Mona Elthaway spoke up about the issue and said, “I don’t care what you think about Ariana Grande, her music or her dress. This is wrong. That bishop’s hand should not be on her breast.” After all, the focus of the issue should be what the issue really is and that is the groping incident.
